Dental Implants Q&A

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a great, long-lasting solution for missing teeth. If you have a missing tooth, a dental implant works with your existing bone structure to form a new “root,” which holds your new tooth in place. The implant mimics your natural root and integrates into your jawline.

A dental implant also prevents further bone deterioration by filling in the hole left behind by the missing tooth. Another advantage of a dental implant is that there’s no need to compromise your surrounding teeth. A dental implant will look, act, and feel exactly like a natural tooth.

How quickly can I get an implant?

For same-day implants, Dr. Burnett uses technology featuring 3D cone beam imaging called Galileos®. With this equipment, Dr. Burnett can scan your jawline in just 14 seconds.

The machine produces a color visualization of your nerve canal and a rendering of your bone in all dimensions. This surface scan, combined with digital X-ray data, creates an unparalleled view of the area requiring treatment.

Special software called Galileos Implant takes the images and provides Dr. Burnett with treatment options that he discusses with you.

From there, Dr. Burnett can fabricate an implant and a crown in his office using CEREC® technology. CEREC provides precision milling and grinding for implants and crowns to ensure that your new tooth fits seamlessly into your jawline.

After your imaging and planning session, Dr. Burnett can provide you with both an implant and a crown in one visit.

How long do dental implants last?

The dental implants that Dr. Burnett provides are designed to last a lifetime.

Before sophisticated imaging and planning technology was available, dental implants involved some guesswork and a fair amount of tweaking. Armed with this advanced equipment, Dr. Burnett supplies you with an implant customized for your mouth.
